Project 2 Villa Mairea
The grey card on the outside is the theoretical divider achieved by the L shape of the house.
From this angle the model looks quite formidable, somewhat like a fortress. This is another function of the L shape in providing a level of protection from the outside or external, there are no openings.
The taller objects have brick like pattern scored into the white cardboard to imitate the lime washed brickwork of the Villa Mairea.
From the otherside it is clear that there is much more revealed about the house. The two masses are elevated and the structure is clearly visible, underneath and within the volumes. The internal columns are also arranged on the perimeter of each volume so as to maximise contiguous space.
The tree theme of the structural columns has been simplified in the model to avoid a too literal translation. The columns are made from straight skewers arranged to achieve some branching effect.
With the exception of the glass elements, the other materials have been stripped from the model.
